Today I bled the hydraulic steering system with the assistance of Lotty. Much research, travelling to buy oil and planning went into this 30 minute job, but we hope this means we have steering again! But lock to lock we have less turns and a smooth, not notchy feeling to the wheel. All signs of a successful fix. Let’s hope there’s not a lurking bigger issue behind the symptoms… ram seals and an overhaul when we’re back in MdR. If it doesn’t work, I test fitted the emergency tiller today. You can see it in the photo. I imagine it’s been tucked away in the back end of the lazerette since 1952, it weighs about as much as me. I REALLY don’t fancy using it in anger, but it might just save us…
